"I think if you can free the pieces of my soul from the ghosts that hold them, I'll be free..."
Jovani

Poe Souls are recurring items that appear in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes.

Appearances[]

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess[]

Poe Souls are fragments of Jovani's soul, now held by Poes, shaped like spheres and covered in an effulgent, red glow.

At one point during the game, Link must sneak into Hyrule Castle as a wolf and meet Princess Zelda. On his route, he enters a strange house filled with riches and a golden statue. This golden statue turns out to be Jovani, who had sold his soul for endless riches. His soul was split into sixty pieces and given to sixty Poes. Jovani, as well as his cat, Gengle, were both turned into solid gold statues. To break the curse, he asks Link to hunt down these Poes and to retrieve their souls.

Once Link has obtained twenty Poe Souls, Jovani is able to move again; however, the curse on his pigmentation remains. As thanks, Jovani presents him with a bottle of Great Fairy's Tears. Gengle is completely normal, but can't escape the house because the door is locked. When Link recovers all sixty Poe Souls, the curse on Jovani is completely broken. Jovani is saddened to learn that while he was cursed, his girlfriend left him for another man. As his reward, Gengle, not knowing what to do with all of the extra money, provides Link with an endless supply of Silver Rupees.

The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes[]

"A Poe hides its soul not in its body, but elsewhere."
— in-game description
Tri Force Heroes Materials Poe Soul

Poe Souls return in Tri Force Heroes as material items used to make clothing at Madam Couture's shop. In this game, they are depicted as the souls of actual Poes and can be obtained in The Ruins stage.
