- "Guard against its blue flame with your shield!"
- — Navi
Blue Bubbles are recurring enemies in the Legend of Zelda series. They are cursed forms of Bubbles and usually can only be defeated once their blue flame has been extinguished.
Appearances[]
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask[]
Blue Bubbles, like other Bubbles, are floating skulls that attack Link, yet are different due to their immersion in a blue flame. They can easily be defended with a shield, and doing so will actually cause them to lose their fiery blanket. The Hookshot will strip their flame and bring them right to Link. They also seem to possess an attraction to bombs, as throwing one near them results in their circling around it until it explodes. In Majora's Mask, their blue flame jinxes Link on contact, and will render him unable to use his sword. The hex fades away after one minute, yet can be instantly be removed by performing the "Song of Storms", or by using any Potion, Milk, Chateau Romani, or a Fairy. They can be taken out in one hit with Light Arrows, and will drop a Purple Rupee as a reward.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker[]
Blue Bubbles appear in the Earth Temple, Wind Temple and Ganon's Tower, and have the same cursing abilities as the Blue Bubbles in Majora's Mask and Ocarina of Time. However, the skulls now render Link unable to use any items at all, and the curse can only be lifted by waiting for a number of seconds or by standing in a ray of light or another well-lit location. This same curse is put upon Link if he enters the purple fog in the Earth Temple. To remove their blue fire, Link must use his Deku Leaf, Hookshot, or use the Ice Arrows to kill them instantly. Using other items against a Blue Bubble while it is shrouded in flame will not work — even the Master Sword merely rebounds off of the enemy's tough skull. Blue Bubbles can pose a considerable threat when encountered alongside other foes: without any items or use of a sword, Link cannot fight back against armed opponents. Interestingly, although the Bubble's curse does not withstand light, the Bubble itself can.
Non-canonical appearances[]
Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U[]
Blue Bubbles appear as enemies in the Smash Run game mode. Despite the fact that they are referred to as Blue Bubbles, they are more similar to Ice Bubbles as they will freeze players upon touching them. A Blue Bubble appears in a trophy of several kinds of Bubbles.
