"You got the Cane Of Somaria! It will be very helpful if you make proper use of it! What a mysterious cane!"
— In-game description

The Cane of Somaria is a recurring item in the Legend of Zelda series. It is a magical red cane (though it more closely resembles a staff) with the ability to create solid Blocks of magic, though only one at a time. Link can use these blocks for holding down switches, throwing them at enemies, pushing them ahead of himself to distinguish invisible floors from bottomless pits, and other purposes.

The Cane of Somaria is the main treasure of Misery Mire, the sixth dungeon in the Dark World. Using it consumes Magic Power. When the cane is waved while a magic block is already present, the block will burst into four fireballs which will fly in the four cardinal directions. The blocks themselves will also damage any enemies they come into contact with, even when motionless. However, a magic block can only survive a few collisions with enemies before disappearing entirely. The Cane of Somaria is also necessary in order to traverse Turtle Rock; when used on a question mark pad, a moving platform is created, which follows certain tracks found in the dungeon.

The Cane of Somaria is the main treasure of the Crown Dungeon, the fifth dungeon in Labrynna. Link can use it to block the progress of enemies or to determine if there is a pit or invisible pathway ahead of him. Blocks created by the cane can be pushed, thrown, and dispelled with a sword strike; however, in this game, the blocks do not shoot magical bolts when destroyed, and a new one is simply created to replace the last if the cane is used twice consecutively. The blocks will, however, damage some enemies that they come in contact with. A block can also be created indefinitely, as there is no Magic Meter or other factor limiting the cane's use. In side-scrolling areas, the cane's blocks can also be used as stepping stones for Link to jump on in order to reach a higher area. The blocks from the cane of Somaria are also needed to modify the path taken by the wall-hugging segments of the Crown Dungeon's boss, Smog.
