- "Small birds love this nut. You can eat it raw for a minor effect, but it can also be added as a spice to other recipes."
- — In-game description
The Chickaloo Tree Nut is an item from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It is a curative item that restores Link's health by refilling one quarter Heart Container. They can added to certain Elixir recipes to give the Elixir a healing effect or used at the Kochi Dye Shop to create a Crimson dye. They can also be used to make Sautéed Nuts by Cooking them alone or with Acorns. Additionally they can be used to make Nutcakes. Link can also roast them with fire or in volcanic temperatures of Death Mountain to make Roasted Tree Nuts. Though their description implies they add a Spicy effect to food dishes, they are actually neutral ingredients that do not add any special effects (presumably the spice mentioned in their description simply refers to their flavor or their use in adding healing effects to elixirs) a trait they share with Goron Spice and Monster Extract.
Link can obtain Chickaloo Tree Nuts by killing any type of Sparrow or occasionally find them in trees in certain areas, though they are not as common as Acorns. They are generally spawn in forests such as the Forest of Spirits on the Great Plateau, trees in Retsam Forest in East Necluda, or Korok Forest in the Great Hyrule Forest region. They can also be sometimes found spawning in odd places such as three of them can be found in one of the aqueduct-like waterways in Zora's Domain, which will occasionally respawn when Link leaves the area. Hunting Sparrows is a reliable way to obtain them, but Link must be very stealthy and attack from a distance with a bow as small birds are quick to fly away and hard to shoot in the air due to their size. One method is to ride a Horse to vault off of then draw a bow in mid-air to shoot the Sparrow in slow motion before they can fly off. This method also takes advantage of the Sparrows' habit of appearing along paths where horses can travel easily. The Nintendo Switch News Channel gives out Chickaloo Tree Nuts and Acorns for free though this only applies to the Nintendo Switch version of Breath of the Wild.
