- "Cuccos are always losing and regrowing feathers. Weirdos."
- — In-game description
Cucco Feathers are recurring items in the Legend of Zelda series. As their name implies, they are feathers from a Cucco which they are always losing and regrowing.
In most games, Cucco will involuntarily shed feathers when attacked or are picked up as part of their animation though despite this they rarely appear as actual items.
Appearances[]
The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes[]
Its in-game description reveals that Cuccos lose and regrow their feathers continuously, indicating that Cucco go through a process of moulting like real world chickens. This may also be a reference to Cuccos shedding feathers when they flap their wings when Link picks them up in various titles.
References[]
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild[]
Though Cucco Feathers do not appear as an obtainable item, they are referenced in Breath of the Wild. It is revealed by certain innkeepers, such as Kachoo and Chessica, that soft and fluffy Beds are crafted using Cucco Feathers in order to leave sleepers full of energy when they wake. Sleeping on one of these beds gives Link a single extra yellow heart in addition to fully restoring his Heart Containers. Thus Cucco are apparently raised by Hylians and Sheikah for their feathers as well as their eggs. Additionally since Cucco apparently molt and regrow feathers constantly they are rather easy for Cucco farmers to obtain which can then be used for bedding by Hylians, Sheikah, and Gerudo.
