Dead Ends (also spelled "Dead-ends") are locations in the Legend of Zelda series. They are areas that appear to contain nothing, but in truth hide valuable secrets. They are all, as their names suggest, or at least initially appear to be, dead-ends.

The Dead End is spoken of by the Old Man. Although the Old Man's quotes are often confusing, it seems likely that it refers to an area in the eastern part of Hyrule. Here, Link finds a dead end in a forest-like area. One lone tree sits in this area that can be burned with the Blue Candle to reveal the entrance to Level 8 in the First Quest; in the Second Quest, the Dead End is home to Level 7.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

"Hey, boy! You're a messenger of the Royal Family, aren't you? Next time you're in their neighborhood, you should drop in on a friend of mine who lives by Hyrule Castle."

When Link is traversing the grounds leading to Hyrule Castle, he comes across a sign that reads "Dead End." If he walks past the sign, he finds that the small inlet is indeed barren with a sole rock pushed up against a wall. If he destroys the rock, he finds a hole leading to a Great Fairy Fountain. Here, the Great Fairy of Magic presents Link with Din's Fire.

Dead Ends also appear in Dampé's Grave if Link goes down the wrong path.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Along a path in Kakariko Village, a sign set up by the Elde Inn staff states that there is a Dead End up ahead. While this is true, Link can jump across the gap at the Dead End to reach a new area.
