"You got a Dusk Relic! This item is similar in appearance to an Amber Relic, yet very different. It can only be found in certain places."
— In-game description

Dusk Relics are items from The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. They are identical to Amber Relics, but purple instead of orange. These precious stones can be collected by Link while exploring the Silent Realm. Dusk Relics are used to upgrade the Slingshot to the Scattershot, the Small Quiver to the Medium Quiver, the Medium Quiver to the Large Quiver, the Sacred Shield to the Divine Shield, and the Divine Shield to the Goddess Shield. Dusk Relics can be sold to Rupin for 30 Rupees each on certain nights.

Inspiration[]

The shape of the Dusk Relic and Amber Relics may be based on japanese Magatama, curved, comma-shaped beads that appeared in prehistoric Japan from the Final Jōmon period through the Kofun period, approximately ca. 1,000 BC to the 6th century AD. Magatama are often appear in Japanese mythology and popular media such as video games. The most famous magatama is the legendary Yasakani no Magatama, one of the Three Sacred Treasures of Japan.

Amber Relic & Mystery Jade[]

Given their similar shape and mysterious origins, it is possible there may be a connection between the Dusk and Amber Relics, as well as the Mystery Jade (a mysterious magatama shaped piece of jade found in Hytopia), a material from Tri Force Heroes.
