Dongorongo, Armored Lizard (重機動鎧竜 ボンゴロンゴ Jūkidō Kairyū Dongorongo?, Heavy Moving Ankylosaurus: Dongorongo) is the boss of the Goron Temple, the fifth dungeon in The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. Interestingly, the stones on its back are very similar to the Crimsonine that it guards.

Battle[]

Dongorongo

First Phase[]

During the first phase of the battle, Dongorongo attacks by shooting fireballs and by ramming Gongoron. To damage Dongorongo, Gongoron must ram into its side, knocking it over. Link must then send a Bombchu across the sand pit into its mouth. After three hits Dongorongo falls to the ground. Gongoron, believing the battle is won, runs off and a bridge appears, allowing Link to cross the quicksand.

Second Phase[]

After crossing the bridge, it disappears, the door closes, and Dongorongo gets up. This phase is fought alone by Link. Unlike the previous phase, Dongorongo now has an apparent weak spot on its back. It continues to use its fireball attack, but now it also shoots a stream of fire that homes in on Link. Like other Dodongos, Dongorongo can be stunned if Link throws a Bomb in its mouth while it is inhaling to breathe fire. It will then be momentarily knocked out, allowing Link to slash at the large weak spot on its back. After enough damage has been dealt, Dongorongo will be destroyed, allowing Link to continue to the next room, which holds Crimsonine. It should be noted that the second phase of this battle is very similar to the battle with the King Dodongo in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Etymology[]

The name "Dongorongo" is a portmanteau of the names "Goron" and "Dodongo", due to traits it shares with Gorons and Dodongos.
