"It is the finest sail in the world! Treat it as such!"
Zunari

The Sail is an item from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. It is needed in order to utilize the wind to rapidly sail across the Great Sea. The sail has only one real purpose: to catch the wind to propel the King of Red Lions forward with amazing speed. If Link attempts to go against the wind, he will keep going more and more slowly until there is virtually no movement. When Link attempts to use the Sail on land, he merely takes it out and displays it, accomplishing nothing.

History[]

Spoiler warning: Plot or ending details follow.

After Link fails in his mission to rescue his sister, Aryll, from the Forsaken Fortress and is knocked down far away from the fortress, he awakens near Windfall Island aboard the King of Red Lions, a mysterious talking boat. After the King of Red Lions explains to Link about the great evil, Ganondorf, who resides in the fortress, he says they should head to Dragon Roost Island immediately, but then explains to Link that he has no sail and asks him to obtain a sail for him so that they may sail across the sea to obtain the Pearls of the Goddesses and the Master Sword, which are needed to defeat Ganondorf. Link eventualy finds Zunari, a merchant who came from a distant land who is selling a sail for eighty Rupees. Link purchases the sail. According to Zunari, the Sail was the only part of his ship that survived the storm that occurred when he traveled to the Great Sea.

Using the Sail, Link and the King of Red Lions embark on their adventure.
