Flat the Younger is a recurring character in the Legend of Zelda series. He is the younger of the two Composer Brothers, with the elder being Sharp.
Flat's appearance, being slightly thinner than his brother and wearing green robes, is likely a reference to Luigi, the brother of Mario, whom his brother resembles from the famous Mario series. Additionally, Flat has a crescent moon on his hat, while Sharp has a sun.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time[]
In life, Flat and Sharp were composers who served the Royal Family of Hyrule. After they died, their spirits lingered in Kakariko Graveyard, acting as Poes. When Link examines one of the gravestones in the graveyard, Flat appears and starts to attack him. Upon defeating Flat's ghost, the spirit surrenders and tells Link of the history of his brother and himself. He provides Link information on why Link defeats Flat's ghost, who surrenders and tells him about how the "Sun's Song", a mysterious song that holds the power to control time, came to be. Much like Kaepora Gaebora, Flat then asks if Link would like to hear what he said again. Link enters the Royal Family's Tomb and finds the notes to the song etched into the door leading to the Royal Family's crypt. If Link encounters Flat again, he further explains to Link the mechanics of the "Sun's Song".

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask[]
Wearing the Captain's Hat, Link orders some Stalchildren to open a grave in Ikana Graveyard on the First Day. Link enters the passage that appears and finds himself inside a huge cave-like complex beneath the graveyard. Link proceeds through the cavern and finds a huge room with a stage and curtain. After defeating an Iron Knuckle, the curtain is raised, revealing a gravestone with notes inscribed on them.
From out of nowhere, Flat's voice sounds. His ghost appears and explains to Link that he and his brother were once great composers in life under the Ikana Royal Family, but his brother turned to evil and betrayed him. He asks Link to learn the song inscribed on the stone, the "Song of Storms", a composition saturated with the grief and anger he holds towards Sharp and play it for his brother. He then disappears. Link plays the song for the ghost of Sharp, who is freed from the grip of evil.

Etymology[]
The name Flat is derived from flat, a symbol used in music terminology. The term flat in musical notation means lower in pitch by a semitone, and Flat is the younger of the two Composer Brothers.
