Forums: Index Help desk New Template Idea

Over on the Little King's Story wiki, I have made a template that creates a special gallery. It allows for information that would normally be represented in a table to be presented in a more visual format. An example of the template in use can be see on this page. Not seen on that page is that if there is a page that matches the title used, it will create a link to that page. One real quick example on how this could be used on our wiki is for things such as locations for heart pieces. Another example could be the locations for the Golden Bugs. The title would be the name of the bug, the caption could include the information in the notes section, and the location it is found could be put in the information below the caption. I was would like to hear if anybody else feels that the implantation of this template could provide any value to Zeldapedia. --Birdman5589 (talk) 17:11, October 3, 2011 (UTC)

The gallery seems like a good idea and, if implemented properly, could be worth adding here. Though I do have one issue, the gallery simply does not work when using Monobook (some slight alignment issues). As far as I know, every other template on this wiki is compatible in both Monobook and Oasis, which I believe it should stay as. If the template could be fixed to work in both, then fine, I'd agree wholeheartedly (as long as no other issues come up), but I'm a Monobook user and I'm sure there are others, and they shouldn't have to look at ugly pages because a template was made compatible with Oasis only. - McGillivray227 19:19, October 3, 2011 (UTC)
I have been able to fix the alignment issues in monobook. However, it then causes alignment issues with the text outside of the caption in Oasis. I have determined that it has to do with the font being different in each skin. There might be a quick fix to make them consistent though. This page is an example where it works fine for both since there is no text outside the caption. This page is another good example where it is compatible on both since it uses a scroll over text instead of a caption. --Birdman5589 (talk) 22:27, October 3, 2011 (UTC)

I would like to voice my complete dissatisfaction with this. It looks clunky, and there are really no big advantages over the current built-in syntax. Not saying there is not potential for an improved gallery template but this isn't it. Also, one person agreeing with your idea is not sufficient grounds to begin incorporating the template for wiki use. --AuronKaizer! 21:58, October 7, 2011 (UTC)

As inactive as I've been here lately, I have been checking up and I'm going to have to agree with AK. And in my opinion, the template was just meh looking. – zzi 00:45, October 8, 2011 (UTC)
