The Four Sword Sanctuary is a recurring location in the Legend of Zelda series. It was built around the pedestal of the Four Sword by the people of Hyrule in order to protect it. Behind the pedestal is a large mural depicting the four blades of the Four Sword striking Vaati's head. On both sides near the entrance of the sanctuary are four pillars, which hold the four Royal Jewels.

The Four Sword Sanctuary is visited only briefly at the beginning and the end of the game. Here, Vaati is released and Link pulls the Four Sword to defeat him. Link returns at the end of the game to return the Four Sword to its rightful place.

The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures[]

Link first visits the Four Sword Sanctuary in the beginning of the game, along with the Seven Maidens to renew the seal on Vaati. When all of the maidens are captured, Link follows Shadow Link through the portal leading to the inner chamber of the Four Sword Sanctuary. Here, he pulls the Four Sword, thus releasing Vaati.

Later in the game, Link returns to the sanctuary during the Frozen Hyrule stage. By placing the four Royal Jewels on their respective pedestals, the maidens open the way to the Realm of the Heavens via the Tower of Winds.

At the end of the game, Link, having defeated Ganon, returns to the Four Sword Sanctuary with Princess Zelda. The Four Sword is placed back in its pedestal, and a pyramidal barrier is placed around it.
