Furnix are enemies from The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. They are bird-like creatures that are encountered in the Ancient Cistern and other areas. They attack by breathing several fireballs in a random pattern in Link's direction, similar to Wizzrobes from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. Having the Wooden Shield or its upgrades equipped when a Furnix attacks is useless because it will burn if Link or the shield is caught on fire. To defeat them, Link must use his Whip to grab their tails and drag them to the ground, making them vulnerable to attack. Once Link drags the Furnix down, he can use the Fatal Blow to instantly defeat it. Alternatively, Link may use his Bow to attack them directly, which is generally a more viable tactic when there are multiple attacking him.

Etymology[]
The name "Furnix" seems to be a portmanteau of furnace and phoenix, the latter referring to the fire bird of legend.
