Gels (ゲル Geru?) are recurring enemies in the Legend of Zelda series. Almost invariably, the Gel is a weaker form of the Zol, forming when a Zol is attacked. The Zol splits in two, producing a Gel.

Appearances[]

Gels are found in various dungeons. They appear as little droplets of jelly, with no apparent face. They move around dungeons in a linear pattern, starting and stopping erratically. As one of the weakest enemies in the game, they can be killed with the Boomerang, and they never drop items. Technically, Gels can be said to inhabit any dungeon that Zols do, but they occur on their own fairly frequently. They color coordinate to the dungeon in which Link encounters them; for example, the Gels in Level 1 are dark turquoise, whereas those in Level 9 are jet black. This is due to the color palette oriented nature of the game's graphics.

Gels are formed when a Zol is destroyed with a weaker weapon. Like their parent, Gels are red. They hop towards Link, but rather than do damage, they cling to him, slowing his movements down. Link can shake them off by walking rapidly or swinging his sword.

The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons[]

In Oracle of Ages, however, some can camouflage themselves against the floors of certain rooms. These can only be defeated by jumping over the tile in the center of the room with the Roc's Feather and then hitting them before they change color.

The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords[]

Gels appear in various dungeons and caverns in Four Swords. Rarely if ever appearing alone, Gels most commonly come in pairs as a result of a larger Zol being cut in two. They behave similarly to their counterparts in other entries, being rather lethargic, benevolent creatures by nature. They are red in color, and pose little harm to the four Links.

The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass[]

Gels once again slow Link down rather then damage him, and are found in various dungeons. Though they appear identical to the larger Zols, the ones that cause damage are considered to be Zols, not Gels. Gels can be split into even smaller enemies when struck. These smaller Gels will also attempt to slow him down.
