- "You got the horse call! Ilia made this just for Epona."
- — In-game description
The Horse Call, also known as Ilia's Charm, is an item from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. This unique, woodwind instrument which resembles a horseshoe is given to Link by Impaz, though he cannot use it until he shows it to Ilia. The instrument can summon Epona when "Epona's Song" is played on it outdoors, meaning it is, in effect, a portable version of Horse Grass.
Story[]
Spoiler warning: Plot or ending details follow.
Early in the game, Ilia crafts the Horse Call for Link as a surprise and locks herself in her house, telling her father to prevent Link from disturbing her so as to not spoil the surprise.
The Horse Call serves as the final key to restoring Ilia's lost memories. Originally, Ilia leaves the instrument with Impaz, who later requests of Link to return it to Ilia after he dispatches all the Bulblins in the Hidden Village.
After Ilia regains her memories, she is able to present Link with the instrument, as well as disclose her previous intention to give it to him before he left for Hyrule Castle, but didn't due to her anger over Epona's injury (which she mistakenly assumed was from Link carelessly jumping fences with her, unaware it occurred the day before while entering the forest to rescue the Children of Ordon and Talo after they had run into the forest chasing the Female Monkey) and the subsequent attack at the Spirit's Spirit by King Bulblin prevented her from giving it to him after Colin had explained that Epona's injury was sustained when Link entered the Forest to rescue of Talo from Bokoblins the day before.
