"CRACKLE-FWOOOSH! You're finished! I will never let you play the Instruments of the Sirens!!"
— Hot Head

Hot Head (デグフレイム Degu Fureimu?, Big Flame) is the Nightmare and boss of Turtle Rock, the eighth and final dungeon in The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. It is a disembodied head cloaked in fire. After enough hits, its true form is revealed: a writhing, big-eyed head with various fangs. Upon its defeat, it berates Link for coming, as things would not have to change had he not arrived, as well as hinted that Koholint Island's existence was born as a result of the Wind Fish's slumber.

Battle[]

The fight against Hot Head is relatively simple. To defeat it, Link must fire the Magic Rod when Hot Head appears out of a magma pit while dodging the fireballs it jumps around when it dives back into the magma; each of these fireballs can do a staggering four hearts damage. However, if Link is at full health and has the Ultimate Sword, he can also use sword beams to damage Hot Head, just as long as he doesn't get hit himself. After enough hits, Hot Head is destroyed. Link then crosses the magma pit to retrieve the final Instrument, the Thunder Drum.

Etymology[]

Hot Head may be a derivative of the Mario series enemy, Hothead. Both enemies' names are taken from the fact their bodies consist of nothing more than a fiery head.
