Biography[]
Spoiler warning: Plot or ending details follow.
After being released from his imprisonment, Ganondorf attacks Greatfish Isle in order to seize Nayru's Pearl and kill the Water Spirit. Jabun manages to escape, but Greatfish Isle is destroyed by Ganondorf's wicked magic. Jabun retreats to a shelter in a cave on Outset Island, and seals the cavern with a mighty stone doorway. During Ganondorf's Endless Night, Link obtains Bombs from Tetra's Pirate Ship and blasts open the doorway to the cave, finding Jabun inside. Lord Jabun speaks in ancient Hylian to the King of Red Lions, and during the Second Quest, Link can understand what Jabun is saying. Jabun questions the King of Red Lions about his search for a new hero and the descendant of Princess Zelda. The King of Red Lions assures Jabun that Link has the potential to live up to the reputation of the Hero of Time, so Jabun agrees to give them Nayru's Pearl, which he had housed inside the lantern atop his head. This is the only pearl Link obtains without first completing a dungeon.

Jabun is not pictographable in-game, Link must instead purchase Jabun's pictograph from Lenzo during the last quarter of the moon or receive it from a Tingle Bottle.
Theory[]
Theory warning: This section contains theoretical information based on the research of one or several other users. It has not been officially verified by Nintendo and its factual accuracy is disputed.
Jabun is stated to be Lord Jabu-Jabu by Prima's Guide for The Wind Waker, meaning that he returned to the land of Hyrule following the Hero of Time's departure to the past and that he survived the Great Flood, taking on the name Jabun once the Great Sea was formed. The credibility of the guide is disputed, however, since Prima is often inaccurate in their information on the series, and since this theory has not been confirmed by Nintendo. Jabun's theme sounds very similar to the background music from Inside Jabu-Jabu's Belly, which may imply a relationship between them.
