Level 1 is the first dungeon of the Second Quest of The Legend of Zelda, and the tenth dungeon in the game overall. Its map forms an 'E' shape.

Level 1 is the only dungeon on the game which is in the same place in both the First and Second Quests. It is inside a tree found on an island in the middle of Lake Hylia, in the central area of the game's world map. The island is accessed by crossing a small bridge from the east.

Theory

After Inside the Deku Tree was seen in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, some fans started speculating that Level 1 is set inside a dead Deku Tree. However, there is little actual evidence for this, and coupled with the fact that no form of a Deku Tree appeared until Ocarina of Time, it seems that this theory is unlikely. However, there is no technical reason this theory could not be true.
