"A magical rod that can shoot balls of electricity. Its gem contains lighting from the Hyrule Hills. It's not recommended to use as a melee weapon."
Hyrule Compendium

The Lightning Rod is an item from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It is a magical rod wielded by Electric Wizzrobe and can be obtained and wielded by Link by defeating Electric Wizzrobes wielding them. However Link may encounter Electric Wizzrobes wielding the stronger Thunderstorm Rod instead.

It allows the user to fire a single ball of electricity produced by its gem which contains lightning from Hyrule Hills. The ball it produces can shock enemies causing them to drop weapons and float through the air, shocking and damaging any enemies or animals they come in contact with. It has a base attack power of 5, though this can be increased by certain weapon bonuses. Additionally the damage output of these balls is increased when it is used while it is raining or used in wet areas. Additionally as it is a single handed weapon, Link can wield it in conjunction with a Shield. If Link performs a Spin Attack, the rod shoots multiple lightning balls around Link. Like most rods, the Lightning Rod is fragile making it unsuited for melee combat and must occasionally recharge to cast more magic, rendering it as little more than a blunt weapon until it recharges. Additionally, it breaks once its lightning magic runs out, as it loses a small amount of durability whenever its magic is cast, though not as much when Link uses it as a melee weapon.

When wielded by Electric Wizzrobes in addition to firing balls of electricity, Electric Wizzrobes can use their Lightning Rods to summon electric enemies such as Electric Keese and Electric Chuchus. Electric Wizzrobes can also use them to generate thunderstorms in the area, though the weather will turn to normal when the Electric Wizzrobe is defeated.

Link can take its picture with the Camera Rune to add it to the Hyrule Compendium, where it appears as entry number 237 in the Compendium's Equipment section. It can be found in Hyrule Ridge and West Necluda regions of Hyrule according to its common locations section in the Hyrule Compendium.
