Spoiler warning: Plot or ending details follow.
In the dark caverns of Death Mountain, Link comes across the Lost Old Man, who has lost his Lantern. He asks Link to aid him in helping him back to his Mountain Cave; in return, the Lost Old Man gives Link directions on where to venture inside the caves. As they travel through the dark caves, the Old Man tells Link that his granddaughter, a descendant of the Seven Wise Men, has been taken captive by Agahnim in order to break the seal placed on the Dark World. Once they make their way out of the cavernous complex and reach the Lost Old Man's house, Link is given the Magic Mirror. Subsequently, the elderly man can restore Link's health whenever he visits him; a helpful favor indeed, as one of the Flute's warp points is located directly outside his house. If Link attempts to use the Pegasus Boots while the old man is following, Link will run at reduced speed as the old man cannot keep up.
