- "This is Magic Powder! Try to sprinkle it on enemies and many other things!"
- — In-game description
Magic Powder is a recurring item in the Legend of Zelda series. Stored in a small satchel, Magic Powder has many different uses.
Appearances[]
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past[]
When Link brings Syrup a Mushroom, she offers to use it to brew him something. Once Link exits the area and returns, a satchel of Magic Powder can be found inside the Magic Shop. It is not necessary in order to complete the game, however. The satchel of Magic Powder can never run empty, as the powder drains Link's Magic Meter rather than emptying the contents from the satchel, suggesting that the powder is formed by magic. If Link's Magic Meter is emptied, he cannot use it until it is refilled.
The primary use for Magic Powder is transformation of certain enemies; Buzzblobs can be turned into Cukemen, Anti-Fairies into Fairies, and certain enemies into harmless piles of Slime. Sprinkling Magic Powder on the strange statue near the Dwarven Swordsmiths's Smithery awakens the Mad Batter, who "curses" Link, cutting the magic he uses by half. Also, Magic Powder can be sprinkled on the Sweeping Lady in Kakariko Village to turn her into a Fairy, but curiously, only after obtaining the Bug-Catching Net and/or a bottle.
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening[]
Magic Powder can be obtained in two different ways; Link can give a Sleepy Toadstool from the Mysterious Woods to Syrup, who resides in Koholint Prairie, to create the powder. Alternately, Magic Powder can be won in the Trendy Game. Also, some Magic Powder can be obtained by lifting two of the pots in Syrup's hut.
Magic Powder's primary uses are lighting Torches and defeating or transforming certain enemies. At one point, Link must use Magic Powder to break the curse on Tarin, who has been transformed into a raccoon after getting lost in the Mysterious Woods. The Magic Powder contains a limited amount of uses, which can be refilled. At first Link can only hold 20 uses, but the amount can be upgraded to 40 by talking to the Mad Batter later in the game.
Using Magic Powder on Dogs and Cuccos allows them to be killed without the consequences of being bitten or signaling swarms of angry allies.
