"By gathering materials, you can create badges in the Badge Market or mixtures in the Apothecary. The types of material you collect depend on the types of enemies you defeat. Captains might drop bronze or silver ingredients, while bosses sometimes drop silver or gold ingredients."
Materials Tutorial description

Material Bags are items that contain Materials used to create badges and Apothecary mixtures in Hyrule Warriors and Hyrule Warriors Legends.

Material Bags are normally dropped by defeated enemies, characters, and bosses. However they can occasionally be obtained from Treasure Chests as victory rewards in Network Link Adventure Mode scenarios. If obtained from a Treasure Chest, the player will receive a random Material based upon the grade of the bag obtained (for example Gold Material Bag will contain a random Gold material).

Material Grades[]

All Materials are graded as either Bronze, Silver, or Gold. Enemies drop different grade materials based on their role and type. Grunts only have bronze grade materials, while Captains and Enforcers only have Bronze and Silver. Giant Bosses and defeated enemy character NPCs only have Silver and Gold. The Materials+ weapon skill makes it easier to obtain better material drops.

Bronze[]

Bronze Materials are obtained from Bronze Material Bags and are common materials dropped by enemy grunts, Captains, and Enforcers.

Silver[]

Silver Materials are obtained from Silver Material Bags and are uncommon materials dropped by some Captains, Enforcers, characters, and giant bosses. The Material Master apothecary mixture can be used to increase the frequency of Silver material drops.

Gold[]

Gold Materials are obtained from Gold Material Bags and are rare materials dropped by characters and giant bosses. They are generally required to create the strongest badges and Apothecary mixtures. The Material Master apothecary mixture can be used to increase the frequency of Gold material drops.
