This article is about the enemy from A Link to the Past. For the item from Breath of the Wild, see Octo Balloon.

Octoballoons are enemies from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. They are Octorok-like creatures that hover above the ground. Once Link strikes one with his sword, it reacts by exploding into six tiny Octoballoons that bounce momentarily before disappearing. These smaller Octoballoons quickly fade in less than five seconds, giving Link little time to attack them all, although each of them require only a single sword strike to be killed. A single red Octoballoon is found in the southeastern corner of Hyrule, near Lake Hylia, and is the only Octoballoon in the original version of the game. However, in the Game Boy Advance re-release of the game, a gold Octoballoon can be found in the newly added Palace of the Four Sword. The smaller Octoballoons are also an answer to a clue in the Quest for the Whirlwind Sword Attack in the Game Boy Advance re-release.

Etymology[]

The name Octoballoon is a portmanteau of the words octopus, the animal upon which the Octoballoon is based, and balloon, which relates to how the Octoballoon flies.
