"...there are Octomines down there that will explode if you touch them! It takes a steady hand to move the arm carefully and steer clear of them!"
Linebeck

Octomines are recurring enemies in the Legend of Zelda series. These black ball-shaped creatures are found in underwater areas. Octomines seemingly use the power of underwater breathing to move themselves underwater.

Appearances[]

The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass[]

A sleeping Octomine from Phantom Hourglass

Octomines are encountered during salvage missions. When one collides with Link's Salvage Arm, it explodes, dealing one point of damage to the Salvage Arm. If it takes enough damage, the Salvage Arm is broken and must be taken back the Shipyard on Mercay Island for repairs. There are three movement patterns of Octomines: sleeping (standing still), moving sideways, or rising up and down. Careful timing must be made when Link lowers and raises the Salvage Arm to avoid damage.

The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks[]

Octomines are encountered when Link is riding the Spirit Tracks in the underwater area of the Ocean Realm. They cannot damage Link, but can be shot with the cannon, producing Rupees as spoils.
