The Old Woman is a recurring character in the Legend of Zelda series. She is a wise elderly woman who aids Link with advice.
Appearances[]
Spoiler warning: Plot or ending details follow.
The Legend of Zelda[]
The Old Woman is found in various caves throughout Hyrule, and is the female counterpart of the Old Man. When Link first enters a cave and approaches her, she usually does not speak, and interacting with her does not produce any results. However, once Link has been given a Letter by the Old Man in the mountains, and shows it to the Old Woman, she will sell the hero Life Potion and 2nd Potion.
At other locations, Link can find the Old Woman asking for Rupees in exchange for advice. When this occurs, Link is given the choice of giving her three different amounts of Rupees. Usually, giving her the smallest or biggest amounts available will result in the Old Woman either complaining about the amount being too small, or having gotten more money than she believed she would. The middle amount, however, prompts the Old Woman to provide him with the aforementioned advice.
Like the Old Man, the Merchant, and the Secret Moblin, it is unknown if the Old Woman is the same character or if many exist throughout Hyrule.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword[]
- "Speaking with the old woman in the Sealed Grounds may aid your search."

The Old Woman resides at the Sealed Grounds. A prophetess of sorts, she was entrusted with the location of the Triforce by Hylia long ago. The Old Woman knows much about Link's destiny and provides him with advice throughout his journey.
When he first visits her she will teach him how to place Beacons on the map. Later, after receiving the Goddess's Harp, if Link goes to the Sealed Temple, the Old Woman will teach him how to play his instrument. She will also teach him the first harp song, the "Ballad of the Goddess".
Although she is known as the "old woman" throughout Link's quest, it is revealed at the end that she is actually an elderly Impa.
