"Huh? What is it?! Master Link! Is it truly you? The Hylian Champion?! It's me! Rivan! We used to swim together when I was but a child... Remember? Well, it has been 100 years since then. And now I'm over 130 years old... I must say you've aged well for a Hylian. Unbelievablely well! Now that I think about it-shouldn't you be dead? Sorry. That may be too personal a question."

Spoiler warning: Plot or ending details follow.

Rivan is the son of Trello who was a member of the Big Bad Bazz Brigade when he was still a child before the Great Calamity. He used to play with his fellow brigade members Bazz and Gaddison. When the four year old swordsman prodigy and future Hylian Champion Link first visted Zora's Domain with a Hylian envoy, he joined the group befriending Bazz, Rivan, and Gaddison. Rivan and Link often swimmed together as children. One hundred years after the Great Calamity, Rivan is shown to have become a Zora Knight alongside his old playmates Gaddison and Bazz the latter of who had become Captain of the Royal Guard in Zora's Domain. At some point during the Age of Burning Fields, Rivan had a daughter who grew up into an adult and later joined the Zora Knights and began serving alongside him, though she tends to take her role more seriously even reminding her father they are on duty when he gets distracted by Link's return to Zora's Domain after a century.

Rivan is shocked when he encounters Link who had awakened from his Slumber of Restoration in the Shrine of Resurrection where he had been recovering from his injuries he received during the Great Calamity. However like his fellow Bazz Brigade members, Rivan holds not ill feelings towards Link and even warns him not to talk to his father Trello or any of the Zora Council of Elders as most of them hold Link responsible for the death of Zora Champion Mipha.
