The Royal Guard, or Throne Room Knights, are the bodyguards of the King of Hyrule and Princess Zelda. They typically reside in the throne room of Hyrule Castle to protect the Royal Family.

Appearances[]

Two soldiers clad in heavier, gilded armor can be seen in Hyrule Castle's Throne Room through the window in the courtyard. Another is the one who throws a Bomb at Link if he hits the window with his Slingshot. They are presumably higher ranked soldiers or knights (possibly members of an elite Royal Guard) and appear to be in charge of protecting the King of Hyrule.

Throne Room guards serve as Princess Zelda's last stand against the Twilight invasion. Despite their efforts to protect her they were slain by Shadow Beasts. They were equipped with a unique set of shields.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild[]

One of Link's memories depicts Hyrule Castle before the Calamity. A few Royal Guards are shown standing around King Rhoam.

As part of "The Champions' Ballad" DLC, Link can obtain a Royal Guard Uniform armor set that survived the Great Calamity. The set includes the Royal Guard Cap, Royal Guard Uniform, and Royal Guard Boots. Rumors detailing their location in Hyrule Castle can be found in a copy of Super Rumor Mill Vol. 4 located in the Riverside Stable. The Royal Guard Uniform reduces the stamina consumed by Charged Attacks.

Imperial Guard[]

In Breath of the Wild, it is revealed that there is an elite group of knights who serve as the personal guards of the Royal Family of Hyrule, with Link being Captain of Princess Zelda's personal guard detail and the youngest Knight to be appointed to the Royal Guard.

These knights are normally referred to as the Royal Guard, Royal Knights, or Royal Family's guard, though Purah refers to them as the Imperial Guard in her diary. As they are responsible for protecting the Royal Family and Link being appointed to them due to his skill despite his young age, it can be assumed that they are made up of the kingdom's strongest and most skilled knights.
