Snails are a species of mollusk that appear in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. They tend to dwell in watery areas of Hyrule such as river banks and shorelines. Unlike other animals they do not move around allowing them to be easily picked and collected by Link. They can be eaten raw or in cooking to make certain food dishes, roasted to make escargot, or frozen. There are two sub-species Sneaky River Snail and Hearty Blueshell Snail. Link can also take their picture to add them to the Hyrule Compendium.

Sneaky River Snails[]

"This large, glow-in-the-dark snail lives in fresh water. When cooked into a dish, it heights your senses so you can move about silently."
— Hyrule Compendium

In the light of day their shells are brown and blend in with the environment, however like all "Sneaky" ingredients, they glow-in-the-dark emitting a green glow from their shells in dark areas or at night, thus it is best to hunt for them at night. They add a Sneaky effect to food dishes when cooked though only if cooked with other Sneaky ingredients or ingredients that lack additional effects. They can be cooked with Sunset Fireflies and monster parts to create Sneaky Elixirs. They can be roasted with fire or volcanic temperatures to create Sneaky River Escargot. They can be frozen with cold temperatures, Ice Arrows, freezing effect produced by White Chuchu Jelly, or ice elemental weapons to create Frozen River Snail. They primarily inhabit the regions of West Necluda and Lanayru Great Spring, though they can also be found in flooded wells of the Deya Village Ruins. A couple can be found in the drainage pond near the waterwheel behind the house where Olkin and Mellie live in Kakariko Village. They also appear around the pools where Zora sleep at night which is located under the Zora Royal Family throne room in Zora's Domain.

Despite being a fresh water snail, they are classified as "Seafood" when used in Cooking.
