"The mere remains of what was once a giant monster known as a Hinox. These skeletal beasts appear at nighttime. Much like their living counterparts, the Stalnox will tear entire trees from the ground to use as weapons. Furthermore, even if it appears defeated at first, it will keep coming back for more as long as its eye is left intact."
Hyrule Compendium description

Stalnox are mini-bosses from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. They are an undead variant of Hinox and the only "Stal" mini-bosses in the game. They have the same amount of health as Black Hinox. They spawn at night like Stalkoblin, Stalmoblin, and Stalizalfos, however Stalnox only appear in certain areas such as Hickaly Woods, Hyrule Forest Park, Satori Mountain, and one in particular is found inside the Hyrule Castle's Lockup guarding the Hylian Shield.

Description[]

During the day, a Hinox skeleton appears where they can be found at night. This skeleton will reanimate into a Stalnox when night falls. Like other Hinox in Breath of the Wild, all defeated Stalnox will be resurrected by a Blood Moon. Each Stalnox, ten in total, counts as one of the forty Hinox specimens that Link must defeat once in order to obtain the Medal of Honor: Hinox from Kilton after completing the main story.

Stalnox are the only "Stal" enemies not fooled by the "Stal" disguise bonus of the "Radiant" armor set. Unlike minor "Stal" creatures, they do not drop an arm that can be used as a weapon. They drop rare weapons when defeated, but unlike Hinox who wear the weapons as part of their necklaces, the ones obtained from Stalnox are lodged in their skeleton. Their skeletons may also cover a weapon during the day but it can only be obtained when they reanimated at night, like the Stalnox skeleton on Satori Mountain which lies on top of a Golden Claymore. However Link can use the Magnesis Rune to remove it during the day. Like Black Hinox, Stalnox have the ability to dig up Bomb Barrels from the ground which they will then throw at Link, though the barrels will only explode when it is not raining. This makes them one of the few Hinox varients to use explosives in Breath of the Wild.

It will start to cover its eye once its health is low enough but will stop when trying to throw its bones at Link or when taking off its arm to throw at him. Stalnox found outside the Lockup will flee by digging into the ground at sunrise. However the Stalnox found inside the Lockup is protected from sunlight by it cell and is able to maintain its body structure in daytime presumably thanks to Calamity Ganon's evil influence that permeates throughout Hyrule Castle.
