Sun Switches are recurring items in the Legend of Zelda series. These switches, which are designed to resemble stylized suns, unlock doors and make objects like Treasure Chests appear when they come in contact with certain kinds of light. They are activated either by means of Sunlight (which can either be direct or reflected off of a mirror) or from being hit by Light Arrows. When activated, their dormant "faces" light up with large smiles. When hit by light, some Sun Switches burn away and may summon Wallmasters from the ceiling.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time[]
Sun Switches are found in certain areas, the most notable of these being in the Spirit Temple and Inside Ganon's Castle. Inside the Spirit Temple, Link must often uncover a source of light to reflect upon them, usually by blowing holes in Weak Walls with Bombs or Bombchus, allowing sunlight to shine through. Some Sun Switches can have light directly shone on them, but Link is often required to reflect light off of the Mirror Shield and/or other mirrors in order to activate them.
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask[]
Sun Switches are commonly found in the Ikana region of Termina and the locations therein, such as Beneath the Well and Stone Tower Temple. Additionally, one Sun Switch serves as the means of unlocking the door to the Secret Shrine hidden in Ikana Canyon. They can be activated the same way as in Ocarina of Time, though it is also possible to activate them with Light Arrows.
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker[]
Sun Switches look different than their Nintendo 64 counterparts, though they function the same way. In the Earth Temple, two statues can also be found with Sun Switches for eyes. If Link and Medli simultaneously shine light on both eyes, the statues will light up.
