Can anyone confirm that it is made from a Dodongo hide?

Gladly. If wearing the Goron tunic, Link can walk on spikes facing upwards prodding out of the ground, eg. ones in the Water Temple. Not sure if it works with ALL vertical spikes, but definitely in the Water Temple
