Telepathic Tiles are items from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. These grey stone tiles, engraved with a triangle (evoking the shape of the Triforce), are found on walls in areas such as dungeons and Hidden Holes in both the Light World and Dark World. When Link activates a Telepathic Tile, he is contacted telepathically by friendly characters who provide him with advice. Inside dungeons, the hints given are commonly related to the completion of the dungeon in question; in other locations, the subject matter is more general. It is not known whether or not the Telepathic Tiles allow for reciprocal communication, as Link does not speak.
In the Light World, the elder Sahasrahla is the one who aids Link; in the Dark World, it is Princess Zelda. When a tile is activated, the one who aids Link usually states their name; however, this does not apply to some Telepathic Tiles found outside of dungeon areas, raising questions about the identity of whomever is helping Link out. One notable Telepathic Tile is found within the Top Secret Room, in which Link is contacted by Chris Houlihan, who asks him not to reveal the room's location.
Apparently, both Sahasrahla and Princess Zelda seem to be able to communicate telepathically without the use of Telepathic Tiles, as they both do so at various points in the game, raising doubts about the necessity of Telepathic Tiles. In the manga adaptation by Shotaro Ishinomori, Sahasrahla contacts Link telepathically via a device known as the Comm Fork; Telepathic Tiles do not appear in any capacity.
