The Legend of Zelda is a trailer for a supposed film adaption of the Legend of Zelda series released on April 1, 2008. It was, in reality, a professionally produced April Fools hoax by IGN. While referred to as The Legend of Zelda, it incorporated elements from many Zelda games, most prevalently The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Despite the fact that it was revealed to be an elaborate and highly-invested April Fools joke, the trailer was noted for its high quality visuals and special effects, which were the main factors in convincing some fans at time of the film's authenticity.

On April 1, 2008, IGN released a trailer for a movie based on the Legend of Zelda series. The characters in the trailer were Link, Princess Zelda, Ganondorf, Impa, Sahasrahla, Talon, Malon and Epona. The Triforce also appeared.[1] The setting included the land of Hyrule, the Temple of Time, Hyrule Castle, and the market in Hyrule Castle Town. Enemies from The Legend of Zelda series also appeared in the trailer, such as Peahats and Armogohma.
Songs used in the trailer included orchestrated versions of "Epona's Song", the Legend of Zelda theme, and other new music.

April Fools[]
The trailer was revealed to be a fake at 12:01 AM (PST) on April 2nd by IGN in a big letdown to several fans.[1] Later that day IGN released more details regarding the trailer, including a "making-of" featurette.
The team at Rainfall Films, which consisted of nearly 20 members at its peak, spent about three months working on the trailer, with Sam Balcomb as its director. All the visual effects were done at his home.[2] Regarding why Link in the trailer is right-handed, Balcom said,
- "Because [Link] was right-handed in Twilight Princess. The real reason is that J.R. Killigrew, who plays Link, is right-handed and the fact the he was essentially coming in to shoot for three days and do a fight scene just wasn't enough reason to spend the months to train to fight left-handed."
