LadyNorbert is possibly the oldest user of the Zeldapedia (in terms of actual age, not in terms of how long she's been here). She is one of the only active female users, and definitely the only active female administrator. Girl gamers are an elusive breed.
Basic(ally Odd) Biography
LadyNorbert has been a Zelda fan since the North American debut of the original game. Yeah, she's that old. Happily married, she nevertheless harbors a secret crush on Link, particularly the version in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. She and her husband have no children, but they do have a goddaughter who is convinced that LadyNorbert is capable of controlling the weather.
Most of her contributions to the Zeldapedia are minor corrections to spelling and grammar, although she does delight in happening upon empty pages and filling them out properly, such as the one for The Secret Passage. Less than a month after joining, she was nominated by Oath to Order to receive rollback rights, which she was subsequently granted, and a few weeks later she became the first Zeldapedian to receive a Zeldaward for being the "kindest user." And then they decided she should be a full administrator and it all went downhill from there. Well, not really. We hope.
Obviously, LadyNorbert is not her real name, but she has used the name in various online forums and websites for ten years. She first adopted the name on Fanfiction.net when she started writing about Harry Potter, taking the name from the dragon in the first book of that series. Her real name is Laura, although she tends to answer to more or less anything as long as she knows it means her.
When not exploring Hyrule, writing fan fiction, or reading entirely too many fantasy novels, she passes the time and pays the bills by working as a church secretary and freelance journalist. She does entirely too much volunteer work, at least according to her husband; at her church she heads up the fundraising committee, sings on the choir, and runs the youth group, plus she spends one day each month helping out at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary. She's also working, at least sometimes, on her second book. Other time-consuming projects include scrapbooking, making jewelry, and lavishing attention on two spoiled cats. She drives a car called Tom Sawyer and is easily bribed with gifts of Double Stuf Oreos.
Despite being a fan of the Zelda series for twenty years (yes, really), LadyNorbert only began to write fan fiction for the series in 2008. Onec she started to play Twilight Princess, an idea formed in her head that wouldn't go away until she fleshed it out in story form. The basic idea is that Link and Zelda are the same people, repeatedly reincarnated; it contains heavy spoilers for Twilight Princess and also some spoilers for the other games in the series. If this sounds like something you'd care to read, please feel free. It's called "Til the Sun Grows Cold and the Stars Grow Old," often abbreviated as TtSGCatSGO. She's also written a short piece about Ganondorf's obsession with Zelda, entitled "Burn," and is presently at work on the sequel to TtSGCatSGO, a comedic tale from Rusl's point of view entitled "If It's Dinsday, This Must Be Castle Town." You can find her profile at Fanfiction.net or at the Zelda Fanon Wiki.
In the Zelda series, LadyNorbert has played only five games -- the original LoZ, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, TwiPri, and now also The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. She owns an NES, a Wii, and the original monochrome Game Boy, complete with all of the accessories, which she got way back when it was the cutting edge handheld console. (I told you she's kind of old.) For Christmas 2008, her dear friend Oldschoolzeldafan sent her the "Promo Disc" for GameCube (which she can play on her Wii), so she's finally going to try The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Most recently she's acquired Link's Crossbow Training, which she finds she really loves and is a great stress reliever.
In addition to the Zelda canon, she and her husband play a lot of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, which is sometimes a problem since their mutual favorite character to play is Link and they are of approximately equal skill.
The Costume Project
For Halloween 2008, LadyNorbert and her husband attempted to dress as Link and Princess Zelda, with mixed results. If you have nothing better to do with the next five minutes or so, you can read all about it here.
Zeldapedia and the Zelda Fanon Wiki are LadyNorbert's only Wikia affiliations. Elsewhere in the Zeldaverse, she is a member of HeroXPrincess, a LiveJournal community for fans of the Link/Zelda pairing. She has promoted Zeldapedia over there a bit, so it only seemed fair to mention that group here. She and her good friend, Oldschool, also co-moderate Zelda Vintage, a community for adult members of the fandom.
