Winter is a season in the Legend of Zelda series. The winter season is distinguished as cold and snowy, and although many winter-like areas appear throughout the series, it is only referenced by name on four occasions.

Appearances[]

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask[]

The mountains of Snowhead are cursed with perpetual winter. Snow covers the region and spring cannot arrive. Because of this curse, Link is faced with many problems, such as the Mountain Smithy's forge being frozen, the Frog Choir being absent from the mountains, the Goron Racetrack closed, and the Goron Elder missing somewhere in the frozen region. To relieve Snowhead of its curse, Link must travel to Snowhead Temple and slay the monstrous Goht within.

The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons[]

Winter is one of the four seasons thrown into chaos by General Onox. It appears randomly throughout the land of Holodrum and Link can control it with the Rod of Seasons. During winter, snow piles up around Holodrum; water freezes over, allowing passage and certain trees that block Link's way to lose their leaves, allowing Link to pass. This is also the season in which Ember Seeds grow.

The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures[]

The southwestern region of Hyrule where the Four Sword Sanctuary and Tower of Winds are located is sent into a perpetual winter when Vaati is released and becomes known as Frozen Hyrule. The curse is lifted upon Vaati's defeat.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess[]

The four seasons rotate every time Link enters the Fishing Hole. During the winter season, the Fishing Hole is cold and snowy, making it difficult to catch the rarer types of fish.
