Zols (ゾル Zoru?) are recurring enemies in the Legend of Zelda series. They are gelatinous monsters generally found in dungeons.

Appearances[]

The Legend of Zelda[]

Zols are color-coordinated with the dungeons they appear in. For example, Zols in the golden colored dungeons are dark brown, and Zols in the green dungeons are forest green. They wander aimlessly in a linear pattern, and are slow moving. If struck with a weak weapon, such as the Wooden Sword or Candle fire, they split into two Gels. A weapon with strength equivalent to or greater than the White Sword destroys a Zol instantly.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past[]

A Red Zol from A Link to the PastA Green Gel from A Link to the Past Zols come in three different colors: green, yellow, and red. However, they are equal in abilities, aside from resilience. They hide under the ground, appearing only as shadows before leaping up to attack. They can only be hit by the Hookshot while hiding in their shadow. Zols are very weak enemies, able only to jump into Link in an attempt to cause minor damage. They only appear in dungeons and caves. If Link sprinkles Magic Powder on them, they turn into Slimes.

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening[]

A Zol from Link's Awakening

There exist two different types of Zols. One splits into two Gels when attacked, while the other does not. Both kinds appear in the monochrome Link's Awakening. In Link's Awakening DX, the Zols that cannot split into Gels are green, whereas those that can are red. Some green Zols can even be found in treasure chests, as traps, although this is rare.

Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons[]

Zols in in the Oracle series are identical to those in Link's Awakening DX.

The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords[]

A lot like the Zols found in Link's Awakening, one type can split into two Gels when attacked, and the other does not. However, Zols that have split into two Gels can attach themselves to the moving character, causing that character to move more slowly and be unable to defend themselves or attack for a few moments.

The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass[]

Zols appear as green, circular blobs of goo. They appear only rarely in Phantom Hourglass, usually only in dungeons, and most notably in the Temple of Courage. Zols will cause damage should they hop into Link. However, once attacked they will split into smaller Gels, which, instead of causing damage, will simply slow him down.
